History and development

• 2005–2006: Planning began for a state-of-the-art long-term care and geriatrics facility. The process included brainstorming, consultation with experts and visits to facilities in Europe and North America, as these services were not available in Saudi Arabia at the time.
• 2006–2009: The vision developed for a state-of-the-art long-term care and geriatrics facility, the first of its kind in the Kingdom.
• 2010–2011: Trial operations began to test system efficiency, with the aim of becoming a model for these services in the Kingdom.
• January 2012: The official opening phase began. The hospital reached almost full occupancy within one year through referrals from partner hospitals and health authorities needing its specialized services, including King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC), Prince Sultan Military Medical City (PSMMC), King Fahad Medical City (KFMC) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).
